World-class wines made in a style unique to Rutherglen. A combination of climate, soil grape variety, generations of experience and the availability of very old stocks put these wines in a class of their own. They are classified according to age and complexity into Rutherglen, Classic, Grand and Rare. The Campbells “House Style” is complex and elegant capturing a rich purity of fruit flavours.
Deep mahogany brown, with olive hues. Intense raisin fruit with nutty ‘aged oak’ complexity, which only comes from very lengthy maturation in oak casks. The ultimate in intensity. Raisined sweetness explodes on the front of the palate. Complex nutty flavours flow through the full length of the palate and the drying tannin finish lingers for many minutes.
The more ancient soleras (usually the base wine is well over 60 years of age) are bottled under the “Rare” caption, and often flirt with perfection. The deep amber-colored non-vintage Rare Muscat Merchant Prince has 328 grams of residual sugar per liter, approximately 18% alcohol, and huge extract and richness. Notes of figs, marmalade, toffee, caramel, and gorgeous sweetness as well as richness are all found in this beauty.
