Nero, carignan, mourvèdre and negroamaro, with dollops of montepulciano and grenache. Hand picked with abundant whole-berry pulp and sass. Portentous blend. Great varieties all, obfuscated to date by the country’s effete fascination with French stuff. No cultural cringe here! Blueberry, rosemary, thyme, anise, clove, raspberry, lilac and a ferruginous burr across the back end. Alive. Fresh. Lovely tannins for this imminently drinkable style! Nothing soupy or insipid. Delicious!

A new project from brothers Duncan and Peter Lloyd, Dune wines sees them step out from the shadow of Coriole wines. Sourcing fruit from a single vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of Mclaren Vale. Organic in conversion, this sandy vineyard has been completely re-imagined since being purchased by the brothers in 2009. Planting and grafting over southern Mediterranean varietals has seen them create a unique range of blends alongside some classic and so2 free shiraz.
PYLA vineyard is planted to Nero d'Avola, Carignan, Mourvedre, and Negroamaro with smaller amounts of Montepulciano and Grenache . The varieties are handpicked and fermented with a high proportion of whole berries. After ferment the wine is put to seasoned oak barrels for 10 months prior to bottling .
