Syrah has, very much, been a part of the Fromm arsenal since it was planted in 1992. Fromm Vineyard Syrah is grown solely at own ‘Home Vineyard’ in the Wairau Valley with a large proportion of the wine made up of fruit from our oldest (26-year-old) vines. It is a genuine expression of high sunlight, cool climate Syrah – giving us ripeness with tasty acidity and checked alcohol.
This 2015 offers intense aromas of black violet perfume, blue and black berry fruit and a spicy, earthy savouriness. On the palate, there is ripe, concentrated fruit void of even the slightest hint of jaminess or extraction. Instead elegance reigns, backed by fine layered tannins and moreish acidity. This is a wine of complexity and depth, but more than anything else – drinkability. Vibrant nose, violets florals, spice, dark red/blue fruit aromas, dense yet elegant, refined ripe tannins, long, complex finish.
Quite an intense wine in a slightly edgy style with pepper, fresh herbs, violet and spicy oak flavours. A dense, structured wine that needs time to reveal its best. I'd love to taste this wine again in a decade 16 OCT 2017 Drink 2017–2025
