Flavours are palate saturating, with terrific clarity, texture, and creamy depth. Cooler-climate aromatics of violet and bramble with hints of eucalypt are dark, aromatically tantalising and point to this wine's power.
Flavours come together with delicious richness: liquorice-like and richly packed with plush purplish fruits, plus chocolatey soft tannins that glide invitingly along in tight and centred focus. A finishing wisp of stalky freshness adds to the finish, complete with a final assertion of gentle powdery firmness. This wine is a real statement of the vineyard's pedigree, expressing beautiful balance and structure ideal for cellaring beyond 15 years.
The Tawarri Vineyard is in the upper reaches of the Hunter Valley at 450m. Hand-picked, crushed and destemmed, 5 weeks on skins in static fermenters, matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new). Powerful black cherry and blackberry fruit, firm yet paradoxically juicy. More time please.
