Monopole. Harmand Geoffroy is the exclusive producer of this 1er Cru which, at 0.45 hectares, is the smallest 1er Cru in Gevrey. The vines here were replanted in ’88. Nestling right at the opening of the Combe de Lavaux, La Bossière is a very cool, late-harvesting site, buffeted by the fresh winds that whistle down the valley. It is this position that defines the ultimate personality of the wine, typically giving it a cool, mountainous feel, tremendous minerality and freshness. In 2016, this is countered by the low-yield generosity of the year, so you get the best of both worlds: wonderful succulence (expect waves of forest berries, pine and red rose aromas and flavours) and a vibrant, juicy and racy finish. Very, very pretty, yet lacks nothing for depth or length.
“A background note of wood can be found on the ripe and fresh aromas of red and dark cherry that are laced with earth and sauvage wisps. There is both good verve and delineation to the lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a sleek mouthfeel thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins that shape the harmonious if slightly warm finish. This is pretty but it's not particularly deep and will need to add depth if it is to ultimately merit the upper portion of my projected range.”
