Grenache 65%, Mourvèdre 35%. (Old vines).
Flowering garrigue, black cherries and licorice all pop on the nose of the 2016 Gigondas Les Hautes Garrigues. Full-bodied, rich, velvety and intense without being overbearing, it's a tremendous effort, with the poise, grace and charm of Disney's Fantasia ballet-dancing hippo. And the finish is long—really long.

Very deep, dark red colour with black and purple tinges. The bouquet is subdued and quiet but brooding, with oak and black-fruit nuances, blackberry, dark plum and a complex array of spices. Traces of earth, graphite and black pepper. A powerful wine of concentration and full-body. The tannins are ample but balanced, and smoothly ripe. A formidable wine with a long-term future. (Very old grenache and mourvèdre vines on poor soils. Organic. 10, 630 btls produced). Drink 2020-2041
