Proud, majestic, complex and exuberant: this is Masi's gentle giant. A benchmark for the Amarone category, which, together with Barolo and Brunello, makes up the aristocracy of the Italian wine world.

The product of Masi's unrivalled expertise in the appassimento technique, whereby traditional grapes for the Valpolicella Classica area - Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara - are laid out on bamboo racks to concentrate their aromas during the winter months. A classic interpretation, the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera offers power and personality. The bouquet shows your standard Amarone aromas of sweet spice and overripe fruit. Costasera adds class and finesse thanks to the slow way in which the wine evolves in the glass. The mouthfeel also treads with a delicate pace. Its silky texture never feels too heavy or overburdened.

 Comprisin 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella & 5% Molinara
COLOUR: Bright, intense ruby red.
BOUQUET: Prominent bouquet of ripe berry fruit, sweet and bitter cherries, and hints of plums tinged with spices, such as cinnamon and cloves.
FLAVOUR: Intense and distinctive on the palate, full bodied and attractive, with the richness of the alcohol content well balanced by good supporting acidity. The tannins are well integrated and pervasive, and the long finish brings the fruitiness and spiciness first noticed on the nose to the fore.
Amarone is a full – bodied wine for grilled or roasted red meats, game and strong tasty cheese, such as parmesan. Generally considered a wine for meditation, it is a great after dinner wine.
AGEING POTENTIAl: 30 – 35 Years

The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera employs the estate's same classic blend of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, with appassimento lasting more than 100 days. This drying period results in a loss of 35% of the grapes' original weight, yielding highly concentrated sugars. It offers a more approachable and slightly fresher expression, but you still get all that Amarone intensity and power, fueled by dark fruit and spice. The Costasera is a little more elastic and versatile than its peers, especially when it comes to food pairing possibilities, accommodating anything from venison and heavy stews to a lighter pasta fagioli. This is a classic Amarone that delivers all the basic promises of wine made from air-dried fruit.
