The Clos de l'Arlot is the first monopole at the heart of this Domaine. It's a site that sits on the steepest and narrowest part of the Côte d'Or and produces a far lighter, more ethereal wine than its significant other, Clos des Forêts. At this time, only 0.87ha of the Pinot planted in the Clos de l'Arlot is utilised for their Grand Vin. This cuvée comes exclusively from the evocative amphitheater of vines within the Clos, to the north of the Estate buildings. The older vines in the Clos were planted between 1939 and 1951 on the steep concave slope of marley limestone historically known as 'cadastre no. 15'.
Although Clos de l'Arlot is labeled Nuits-Saint-Georges, it really doesn't look like a typical Nuits at all. Its personality is much more Chambolle, reflecting the Prémeaux terroir (which is as good for white wines as it is for reds). The winemaking is effectively the same as the Forêts: fermented with 40% whole bunches and raised with 50% new oak. This is a wine of great intensity with wild strawberry and pomegranate fruit, and a palate that is all about aromatic intensity and precision. The notes below sum up this beautiful wine well.
"Ripe, red cherry on the nose, highlights of rose petal. The sinuous, light, and supple palate adds aromatic layers of lemon balm, Morello cherry, and tart blood orange. There is a wonderfully light touch at work, emanating from the firm, profound core. Gorgeous, spicy, and scented."

"The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot is showing beautifully in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, redcurrant, violets and spices that are delicately framed by a discrete touch of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, exquisitely satiny and enveloping, with racy acids, melting tannins and impressive intensity and persistence. In the context of the vintage, this is both impressively concentrated and notably vibrant, though these qualities are rendered in a supremely elegant format."
