The Asili is Giacosa’s most famous GC vineyard. It was the first and could be considered the ‘flagship’ of Giacosa. By all accounts the 2017 is a fresh, more lively wine/vintage than the previous couple and while might be overshadowed a little by the ‘carry-on’ surrounding the 16’s, one would be cray-cray to ignore this wine. This style of vintage suits this wine to a tee! 07 was similar, as was 12… and although this might seem a little ‘light-on’ while young, its meant for the cellar and in about 4-10 years, its gonna blossom, into a wine of stunning beauty, carried by its poise and class – aka lively-elegance.
There’s impeccable transparency and freshness to this Barbaresco on the nose, which introduces bright rose petals, lifted orange peel, crushed stones and sour cherries. The stoney tannins trace intricate detail on the medium-to full-bodied palate, highlighting the racy acidity, brambly undertones and a beautiful array of wild berries. Yes, there’s power and depth of flavor, but this is all about grace and beauty. Drink from 2024.
