Selected from vineyard blocks in Frankland River and Mount Barker, open-fermented in small vats, matured for 15 months in new and used French oak. A serious, powerful full-bodied wine that suffers fools badly, and might be confused with cabernet in a blind tasting thanks to savoury tannins that provide a platform for the blackberry, black cherry and plum fruits, all with a dusting of spice and pepper, French oak also contributes.
Garnet in colour with a lively bouquet of black and red fruits with subtle spice, musk and hibiscus notes. The palate is fleshy and mouth-filling with Satsuma plum, mulberry, boysenberry fruit flavours plus Hoisin sauce notes and sweet spice flavours. The blend of fruit from our Frankland River and Mount Barker vineyards really bring a sense of play and complexity with spiced, finely structured parcels of grapes combined with bold, primary flavoured parcels. 15% whole bunch fermentation adds wild depth of flavour and pleasant chewy tannins, balanced by refreshing natural acidity and fine-grained oak texture.
A perfect partner for lamb moussaka, or pair with fried eggplant stuffed with manchego and fresh herbs.
