'On The Way' is Chichibu's in-progress release, which provides us an insight into what Chichibu might become as the distillery moves towards releasing its first age-statement whisky. The 2019 is the latest since their 2015 edition, and is believed to be the final stepping-stone before this highly anticipated final product.

On The Way 2019 comes from a blend of 52 casks, all matured for between seven and ten years. They're mainly first-fill ex-bourbon casks, but there are also some second-fill Chibidaru (Japanese quarter casks) in the mix, and some mizunara (Japanese oak) hogsheads with and some added peated whisky elements.

It has an exuberant nose, with honeyed notes and stone fruits, then pepper and sweet cinnamon/nutmeg spice. On the palate it's rich and fruity, with a backbone of vanilla and pastry notes. Finishes long and balanced.
