Rare multi-regional solera blend with five decades of layered flavours
From a five-stage Solera, largely from Barossa and McLaren Vale. This is such a gem, a precious living legacy of Neil Jericho’s experience in another time, dutifully maintained, albeit released in frugal quantities. It’s a wine style that is perhaps not readily capturing a new audience, but one of such historical importance and such engaging complexity and deliciousness that it should be celebrated. The spirit quality here is top drawer, the layers of flavour endlessly unfolding. Ginger biscuit, roasted nuts rolled in praline, sea salt, vanilla bean, buffed mahogany, roasted figs, cacao and clove; and that’s much the fun part, unpicking the detail. Superb. And I’m going to call it great value, too. 500ml.

Jericho Wines is a multi-generational family business based in Blewitt Springs sourcing fruit from the estate vineyard as well as select growers in other parts of McLaren Vale as well as the Adelaide Hills.
Neil and Kaye Jericho bought several barrels of a then six-year-old fortified wine in 1974. Those have followed the family for five decades as they have moved from one wine region to another, the wine concentrating and slowly evaporating over time and Neil topping the barrels with tawny styles he made over the years.
The original barrels form the foundation of this unique solera blend which was blended with younger of 12- and 15-year-old components to produce this wine that has an average age of 24 years.
