Another lovely wine from Larmandier-Bernier, the 2017-base NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Longitude was disgorged in April 2020 with three grams per liter dosage. Mingling aromas of citrus oil, green apple and pear with hints of white flowers and fresh bread, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly enveloping and precise, with a more mineral, chiseled profile than the Latitude bottling, reflecting its origins in optimally situated parcels in Vertus, Oger, Avize, Cramant. As I've written before, this is one of the finest non-vintage bottlings to be found in Champagne, and it comes warmly recommended.

Base 2017, Disg Sep 22

Larmandier Bernier Premier Cru Longitude Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Base 2017 Disgorged September 2022 is a pristine, chalk-driven Champagne that captures the elegance and mineral purity of the Côte des Blancs. Crafted entirely from Chardonnay grown in Premier Cru villages aligned along the same limestone-rich seam—Vertus, Oger, Avize and Cramant—the name “Longitude” reflects both geography and the wine’s vertical, linear style.

Pierre and Sophie Larmandier, known for their biodynamic practices and low-intervention winemaking, ferment with indigenous yeasts in a mix of oak barrels and stainless steel. There’s no fining, no filtration, and a very low dosage to let the terroir speak. This is Blanc de Blancs at its most honest and focused.

Aromas of lemon peel, white peach, fresh pastry, chalk dust and green almond leap from the glass. The palate is tightly coiled and electric, with fine bubbles, laser-like acidity, and layers of citrus, crushed shell and a hint of biscuit. It’s dry, pure and refreshingly understated, with a long mineral finish that hums rather than shouts.

Perfect for oysters, sashimi, goat cheese or simply as a palate-cleansing aperitif. Elegant, energetic and unmistakably Larmandier, this is Champagne for purists.
