Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos is a classic and deeply expressive Sherry that sits at the crossroads of biological and oxidative aging, offering remarkable complexity and finesse. The wine begins its life under flor like a Fino in Jerez de la Frontera, protecting it from oxygen and preserving freshness, before the flor naturally fades and the wine continues aging oxidatively. This dual upbringing gives Los Arcos its distinctive character, combining brightness and savoury depth. The vineyards are rooted in the region’s iconic albariza soils, brilliant white chalk rich earth that retains moisture and reflects sunlight, allowing Palomino to ripen with delicacy and precision in the hot Andalusian climate.
Bodegas Lustau was founded in 1896 and is one of the great names of Jerez, renowned for its mastery of traditional solera systems and long aged Sherries. Los Arcos is aged for many years in seasoned American oak casks, developing layers of complexity while maintaining balance and freshness. In the glass it shows a deep amber colour with copper highlights. Aromas are intense and refined, revealing roasted almonds, hazelnut, dried citrus peel, toffee and subtle notes of tobacco and sea spray. The palate is dry, concentrated and silky, with flavours of nuts, caramel, savoury spice and a long, saline finish that speaks clearly of its maritime origins. It is superb with roasted poultry, mushrooms, aged cheeses, cured meats and rich broths, and once opened it remains remarkably stable, evolving slowly rather than fading.
