You could be forgiven thinking that this wine is a champagne. Everything about it points to it. Everything except the price, that is.
Crémant de Bourgogne is the sparkling wine of Burgundy. It is made using the traditional method as per Champagne, and is usually a blend of permitted varieties that lie with the boundaries of the Burgundy AOC, in this case Chardonnay (60%), Pinot Noir (20%), Gamay (10%) and the rare Aligote.
Marchand & Burch is the Franco-Australian partnership between Burgundian winemaker Pascal Marchand and Western Australia’s Burch family (of Howard Park fame). Their shared vision is one of biodynamic farming, minimal intervention, and wines that speak clearly of their origins. This Crémant de Bourgogne follows that ethos, showcasing the purity and finesse Burgundy can achieve with sparkling wine.
Fermented in bottle and aged on lees for an extended period, the wine develops complexity and texture while retaining crisp acidity and aromatic lift.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of green apple, lemon zest, white flowers, and subtle brioche. The palate is clean and lively, with fine bubbles, citrus and stone fruit, and a chalky, dry finish. There’s delicacy, but also a savoury edge that gives the wine food-friendly depth.
Perfect as an aperitif or paired with oysters, sushi, or soft cheeses, Marchand & Burch Crémant de Bourgogne Brut is a serious sparkling wine that offers Champagne-like elegance at a fraction of the price.
