Few Champagnes are as instantly recognisable around the world as Moët & Chandon Impérial, the flagship cuvée of one of Champagne’s most historic houses. Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, the house quickly became a favourite of European royalty and Napoleon Bonaparte himself, who is said to have celebrated victories with bottles of Moët. The name Impérial honours this long association with the French imperial court. Today Moët & Chandon forms part of the LVMH group and continues to draw fruit from one of the largest vineyard holdings in Champagne, with more than 1,000 hectares spread across the region’s finest crus. The wine is crafted from the traditional Champagne blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, bringing together fruit from over one hundred different vineyards to create a consistent house style that balances richness, freshness and elegance.
The winemaking team blends multiple vintages to maintain the signature character of the cuvée each year. Pinot Noir contributes structure and depth, Pinot Meunier adds roundness and generous fruit while Chardonnay brings freshness and finesse. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and spends extended time ageing on lees in the cellars beneath Épernay, developing the subtle complexity and fine mousse that define great Champagne. The result is a wine that captures both the heritage and craftsmanship of one of the most celebrated Champagne houses in the world.
The colour is a bright golden straw with lively streams of fine bubbles. Aromas open with green apple, citrus and white peach layered with notes of brioche, toasted almond and delicate white flowers. As the wine opens further hints of honey, fresh pastry and a touch of mineral freshness appear. The palate is vibrant and beautifully balanced with flavours of crisp apple, pear and citrus supported by a creamy mousse and refreshing acidity. Subtle notes of biscuit and toasted nuts add depth before a long, clean finish that leaves the palate refreshed.
Moët & Chandon Impérial is wonderfully versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, prawns, sashimi, grilled lobster, roast chicken or light canapés. Its lively acidity and fine bubbles also make it perfect as an aperitif or for celebrations.
While designed to be enjoyed in its youthful vibrancy, well stored bottles can develop additional complexity over five to eight years.
