Half bottle, 375mL
This is a beauty. Buy this. It's plump, it's controlled, it's generous and it's distinctive. It tastes of iodine and plum, peppercorn and cedar, and while it feels powerful through the palate, the finish is as neat as a pin.
93 points Campbell Mattinson for Halliday Wine Companion, Special Value, August 2024
Bleasdale was founded by Frank Potts in 1850 and has been in continuous production ever since, still guided by direct descendants of the founding family. The Mulberry Tree is named for the ancient tree that grows beside the vineyard on the banks of the Bremer River — a fitting symbol for a wine built around consistency, place and longevity.
Langhorne Creek suits Cabernet Sauvignon well. The region's deep alluvial soils, flood-irrigated through winter and dry through summer, combined with the moderating influence of nearby Lake Alexandrina, produce fruit of natural generosity and reliable ripeness. The Mulberry Tree is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with small contributions of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in oak for approachable structure and soft, smooth tannins.
The nose is fragrant and generous, blackcurrant, mixed berries, dark chocolate and violets, with a palate that is smooth and persistent, finishing with a gentle herbal lift characteristic of the region.
One of Australia's most consistent Cabernet performers at its price point, from the 2024 Halliday Winery of the Year. Drink now with ribs or a good pizza.
