2024 Greystone Chardonnay Organic, Waipara

Focused and bright, exhibiting apples, baking spices and cedar aromas. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Zippy and well-rounded, this has a savory finish with excellent length. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Savoury, sophisticated and suavely textured, the 2024 Chardonnay is fine and focused. High concentration speaks to low yields, while a belt of acidity maintains the palate's shape. Classic Chardonnay flavours of ripe white stone fruit meet oak-derived grilled nuts and a lightly salty character. Fine phenolics and a careful weave surface on the long finish. Drink 2026-2034.

The Greystone Chardonnay is a refined and expressive wine made from fruit grown in two estate blocks in the Omihi Hills, with the B95 clone giving stone fruit character and the Mendoza clone adding power and concentration. The limestone bedrock here gives the wine a mineral length that is the site's consistent signature across vintages. The vineyards are certified organic and dry grown.

The 2024 growing season was warm, producing fruit of concentration and definition. The blocks were vinified separately, B95 in tank and Mendoza in barrel, then brought together to produce a wine that combines generosity with structure.

Pale lemon, the nose shows ripe nectarine and pink grapefruit with toasted almonds, bran and fine blossom. The palate is rich and textural with exotic spice, lemon pith and a lengthy mineral spine. Structured enough to cellar, rewarding enough to open now.

Grilled fish in a lighter sauce, or a seafood risotto, could work well for this wine.

A couple of years in the bottle wouldn’t hurt and reward you with a nicely settled wine. Drink now through 2032.
