Four plots spanning 1 hectares in Oger; aged on lees 3 years; no chaptalisation, 5.5 atmospheres of pressure; 4.5g/L dosage

Labelled ;Oger grand Cru' in large letters and Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Special Club' in fine print, because 'this is not a style of Gimonnet'.

Didier has found the southern Cote des Blancs character, smoky strength, priphine minerality and forward development of Oger difficult to reconcile with his northern blends. hence a monocru cuvee by default. in the great 2012 season he elaborated three monocru Special Clubs, and while Oger is already ready to drink ('very nature for three-year-old wine!')
Cremant and Chouilly are not yet ready for release. it's Gimonnet's finest Oger to date, toning the power of the village with the precision and definition of the house.
The eloquence of the season is captured by pulling back the focus of oger from its classic typicity of orange and spice, into a fresher and more refined spectrum of lemon, grapefruit, pear and apple, with subtle mature notes of spice, almond and nougat. The grainy, salty minerality if the village is all-conquering, more crystalline that ever, frawing long through a finish of exacting acid balance and brilliant line and length.
95 points  Tyson Stelzer The Champagne Guide

A new bottling from Didier Gimonnet, the 2012 Brut Special Club Oger Grand Cru derives from the lieux-dits Terres de Noël, Brulis, Fondy and Champs Nérons and was disgorged in November 2016. This is still a very youthful, vibrant wine, unfurling in the glass with scents of crushed chalk, lemon oil, waxy citrus rind, white flowers and subtle hints of quince. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep, concentrated and tight-knit core girdled by tangy but ripe acids, displaying a delicate, pinpoint mousse and concluding with a sapid, saline finish. This is a brilliant Champagne, but for my palate, it's still four or five years from really hitting its stride. Drink: 2023-2040
