Remembering that first release of Rebus sold out in just a few weeks (awarded 98 points by Halliday) and that 2013 was equally impressive, we are very keen to look at 2014 vintage. The mail is its every bit as good as its predecessors. In the words of winemaker Bruce Dukes the 2014 is ‘fragrant, complex aromas of cherry and mulberry are presented on a framework of fine tannins giving a decadent, silky texture and lingering finish. A combination of concentration, refinement and elegance.’
Deep red/purple, impressive colour, and the bouquet is fragrant, lifted and attractive. Floral, violets, blueberry and raspberry, minty, leafy and spicy, with stylish oak backing. The palate is likewise loaded with appeal, although it’s only medium-bodied and possibly a trifle lean, while the flavours are charming and hold my interest. The tannins are light but firm and cleansing on the aftertaste. This is different. A very elegant style of cab.04 JUL 2016
