Feyles Sorelle de Nicola Langhe Nebbiolo DOC is a traditional, quietly expressive red from Piedmont that offers a rustic, authentic take on Nebbiolo. Produced by the historic Feyles estate, which traces its roots to the early 20th century, this wine is crafted in a minimalist, old-school style that favours purity of fruit, vineyard expression and slow ageing over modern polish.
The grapes are grown in the Langhe hills, from vineyards that may not have Barolo or Barbaresco on the label but share similar soils, altitude and potential. Fermentation is done with native yeasts in concrete or steel, and the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks — a classic touch that gives the wine a gentle oxidative character and helps soften Nebbiolo’s famously firm tannins without masking its aromatics.
The nose opens with notes of dried cherry, rose petals, tar, leather and forest floor. On the palate, it’s medium bodied and savoury, with flavours of sour cherry, blood orange, crushed herbs and earthy spice. The tannins are grippy but well integrated, and the finish is dry, mineral and long.
Food pairing: pairs beautifully with tajarin and ragù, truffle pasta, braised beef, roasted duck or aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano-Reggiano. Also excellent with mushroom risotto or veal shank.
Cellar potential: enjoyable now with decanting, but will reward 5 to 8 years in the cellar, developing more leathery, autumnal depth and tertiary complexity.
