The Majella Shiraz first appeared in 1991 and has since acquired a reputation as one of Coonawarra's finest Shiraz's.
As is usual at Majella the fermentation was completed in 300 litre barrels and the wine was then aged for a further 18 months in a blend of French and American oak.
The 2014 Majella shiraz is a deep ruby red colour with a bright crimson hue. A spicy cinnamon bouquet, a delicious palate of dark red berry fruits, dark chocolate with hints of vanillin. The fine textured tannins lead to a long and evenly balanced finish.
A great example of Coonawarra Shiraz at its very best.
95 points – James Halliday
Fermentation completed (after pressing) in hogsheads, matured for 18 months in French and American oak. Just when you think the oak may have been overplayed, the fruit comes charging through on the back-palate, finish and aftertaste. It lifts the whole feel of the wine, and is the consequence of sophisticated winemaking from vines planted as far back as '69. $37/14.5%/2034
