2014 Mouton Cadet Réserve Saint-Émilion, Right Bank Bordeaux

This is an excellent example of strong French ‘branding’ established in the 1930’s that still exists today.  Introduced by the youngest Rothschild family member and owner of Château Mouton Rothschild, Baron Philippe who maintained close partnerships and encouraged parcel selections with neighboring winegrowers – the key to this brand’s consistent wine quality.  Premium Merlot dominates the blend (88%) providing suppleness and lively red fruit characters mixed with raspberry and blueberry flavours from 10% Cabernet Franc. 

There is no oak usage in the production of this wine, so a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (2%) provides soft tannins and structure balanced with a generous expression of rich fruit and a moderate finish.
