dense, broody black fruits with some redcurrant lifts. There is a bitter, spiced chocolate element, that swirls around the spicy nutty oak. Depth with grace. Lingering finish. Pork cassolet work work well.
93 pts – James Suckling, Tasted September 2017
This is all about the granite slopes of Le Blanc up behind Gervas. It has a wild cherry and raspberry nose with dark plums, too, as well as attractive pepper and exotic spices.
The palate has a powerful cage of tannins holding dark plum fruits bright and long. This is great Crozes and needs time. Best from 2020 and for a decade at least.
(aged in a combination of new and used barriques, stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs for nine months; these vines range from 60 to more than 100 years old) Green-tinged yellow. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of fresh pear, white peach and jasmine pick up vibrant orange zest and fennel accents as the wine opens up. Silky and sharply focused on the palate, offering nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors energized by a jolt of juicy acidity and a chalky mineral note. Shows impressive power and thrust on the penetrating finish, which leaves behind hints of bitter orange pith and iodine. There will be no 2016 or 2014 versions of this bottling.
