The 2015 Grande Vintage is an equal split of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and spent 10 years on the lees prior to disgorgement. I love the mid-palate weight of this wine; while the 2017 tasted alongside it was tightly coiled and structural, this here is concentrated and piercing in its fruit flavors (although I wouldn't extend to "fruity," it is savory, spicy and fine), and the mousse is creamy and textural. This is a beautiful wine, mouth-filling and satisfying. It has five grams per liter dosage.

96 points Erin Larkin for The Wine Advocate, March 2026

This bottle fermented sparkling blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir was made from estate grown fruit and spent ten years on lees in the bottle before disgorgement. Drinking beautifully on release, it offers potential for further cellaring for those who enjoy the rich complex umami of mature sparkling wines.

Finished with a modest dosage, it pours with fine bead and opens with honeyed lemon aromas that are soon joined by toasted nuts and oven baked orange rind. The harmonious, spicy and savoury palate has nice weight to it, the overall feeling luxuriant.

This would be a festive treat with Cantonese roast pork belly (siú juk) with drops of unsweetened orange oil or hot mustard or warm tartlets filled caramelised mushrooms and crème fraiche topped with melted aged Comté.

About this producer

Steve and Monique Lubiana laid the foundation of Stefano Lubiana Wines in 1990. Located in Tasmania’s southern Derwent Valley, their now 25-hectare Granton vineyard was the first in Tasmania to be certified biodynamic. The family also farms a 10-hectare site acquired in 2016 in the neighbouring Huon River Valley.

A fifth-generation winemaker born to an Italian migrant family from Friuli, Steve continues to oversee all aspects of viticulture and winemaking, and son Marco has worked alongside him in aspects of the business.

While they have a strong focus on premium sparkling wines, the quality of the still Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines is excellent and consistent, and the family loves to experiment and explore with other varieties and styles.
