2015 Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Narvaux is all apples and lemons at first. This quickly zooms into a whole new Meursault world. Preserved lemon with a dusting of dukkah like spice, is swiftly replaced with buttery brioche. Rich yet not. Still evolving, I think there is a lot more going to emerge. The finish is long with a pure shot of mineral activity thrown in. Give it time to open up. Would marry well with chicken stew, green salad and crunchy potatoes.
Fifty five year old vine from around the village of Meursault are used for making this wine. Hand-harvested, lightly pressed for slow extraction the wine is aged on fine lees for 16 months in French oak casks (15% new) for both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. A month before bottling the wine from different barrels is put in a stainless steel tank to make the final blend which displays aromatic flint and lively and full complexity. Have it with fish, crustaceans and white meets.
‘A ripe assortment consists of hazelnut, citrus, pear and soft spice nuances. There is fine richness to the lively and generously proportioned flavors that exhibit a touch of salinity on the clean and dry finish. This should be approachable young.’
