The vines for Vincent Girardin Pommard are 65 years old. The village Pommard is in the south of the Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay.
The grapes are hand-harvested, partially de-stemmed and aged in French oak (15% new). After malolactic fermentation the wine is than aged on fine leese for 14 months, before bottling without fining and filtering.
Generally Girardin's Pommard wine has a dark red colour with intense and percussive aromas of blackcurrant, musk and game. Well-marked acidity well-marked and mellowness only appears after a minimum of maturation.
Ideally to be drunk with game or cheeses.
'Soft wood sets off the spicy and earthy black currant and floral violet nose. There is good freshness and a great sense of energy to the bright dark cherry flavours. On the finish good ripe tannins and nice spicy fruit..’
