2015 Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes 375ml, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy. Blackberry and currants. Sexy and silky tannins are balanced by nice acidity. Good length and a lingering finish.
The vines for Vincent Girardin Pommard are 65 years old. The village Pommard is in the south of the Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay.
The grapes are hand-harvested, partially de-stemmed and aged in French oak (15% new). After malolactic fermentation the wine is than aged on fine leese for 14 months, before bottling without fining and filtering.
Ideally to be drunk with game or cheeses.
'Soft wood sets off the spicy and earthy black currant and floral violet nose. There is good freshness and a great sense of energy to the bright dark cherry flavours. On the finish good ripe tannins and nice spicy fruit..’
