An elegant, cool and ultra-fresh nose combines a plethora of floral elements with those of high-toned red currant, plum and lavender. The sleek, delicious and stony flavors possess reasonably good mid-palate density as well as fine depth and length. While the dusty finish offers solid balance, it does need to flesh out and thus at least some patience is recommended. Drink 2025+

2017 Domaine Heitz-Lochardet Pommard 1er Cru Les Pézerolles is a beautifully serious and finely etched expression of Pommard, coming from one of the appellation’s most revered Premier Cru sites. Les Pézerolles sits high on the slope above the village, bordering Volnay, with shallow limestone soils mixed with iron rich clay that give wines both structure and an unmistakable mineral drive. This elevated position brings slightly cooler conditions and more finesse than the heavier lower slope sites, resulting in a style of Pommard that balances power with aromatic lift and precision.
Domaine Heitz-Lochardet is part of a new generation of Burgundy growers redefining the Côte de Beaune through organic and biodynamic farming. Armand Heitz, who took over the family vineyards in the early 2010s, converted the estate to biodynamics with a deep belief that living soils are essential to expressing terroir honestly. He works old vines across some of Burgundy’s finest sites, farming meticulously by hand, ploughing rather than using herbicides, and harvesting at moderate ripeness to preserve freshness and detail. In the cellar, winemaking is restrained and transparent, with gentle extractions and carefully judged oak, always in service of vineyard expression rather than imprinting a house style.
The 2017 vintage was relatively early and generous, producing wines of charm and balance rather than excess. In the glass Les Pézerolles shows a deep ruby colour with vibrant clarity. Aromas unfold slowly, revealing wild cherry, red plum, raspberry and rose petal, layered with earthy spice, iron, crushed stone and a subtle savoury note that is classic Pommard. The palate is structured yet refined, delivering concentrated red fruit, fine grained tannins and a firm mineral spine that carries through to a long, savoury finish. It is a wine that feels compact and purposeful rather than broad, with excellent tension and drive.
This is a superb partner for roast duck, veal, game birds and mushroom based dishes, and it is built to age gracefully for fifteen to twenty years, developing truffle, forest floor and dried flower complexity as it matures. Domaine Heitz-Lochardet Pommard 1er Cru Les Pézerolles is a compelling example of biodynamic Burgundy done right, combining purity, structure and a profound sense of place.
