Blended with the Les Pitures and Mitans as usual, the 2016 Volnay 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with pure blackberry and bilberry fruit, focused and what you might describe as tidy. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely blackberry and redcurrant fruits, something refreshingly bucolic about this premier cru, a little short but delicious. Drink 2020-2030.

A notably ripe nose features notes of cassis, plum liqueur, anise and a discreet hint of wood. There is a finer texture to the still muscular and sappy flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the firm and youthfully austere finish. This too should age effortlessly. Drink 2024+.
