Planted in 1969 Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region, located in the northern sub–region of Wilyabrup, Western Australia. Clare & Keith Mugford, as winemakers, viticulturalists & proprietors, have been making wine & tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 & 1979, respectively. Their exacting viticulture ensures the production of grapes of excellent quality & they have created a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency over each vintage & their ability to age superbly.
Who is 'Amy' - In 1997, Clare and Keith negotiated a 3 year contract to buy the fruit from the “Glenmore Vineyard” owned by Amy Beers, the grandmother of Ian Bell who still owns and managers that vinyard.
Colour and condition: deep brick red, in bright condition
Nose: lifted dark fruit aromas of mulberries and blackcurrants, backed by some spicy, white pepper notes from the Malbec and musk-like perfumes from the Petit Verdot; complex cedar and tarry notes in the background
Palate: As with the nose, dominated by dark fruit notes, with juicy blackberry and red currant flavours; the acidity and tannin are firm but not in any way aggressive and are well balanced
The wine is a blend of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot
