2016 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese #14 is probably the most complex of the auslese we tasted. Incredibly rich nose that screams a variety of tropical, citrus and orchard fruit, bordering on cake-like. A good punch of Rose's lime marmalade like flavours, offset with a slap of fresh lemony acidity, all this is done without being overly unctous. This wine evolves in the glass, in a determined manner showing you everything it's got. Could keep going on, but I just want to sip it a bit more...
"White peach, mirabelle, Persian melon and pink grapefruit burst aromatically from the glass and then lusciously fill the mouth with almost syrupy richness and viscosity but without overdone sweetness, thanks to the efficacy of fresh peach and grapefruit juiciness. The lingering finish continues to capture a combination of almost exotic ripeness and creamy richness with refreshingly vibrant brightness. But it also introduces a hint of white raisin, while toasty, praline-like notes add alluring counterpoint. “This came from a mixture of tiny, healthy, golden berries with ones that had botrytis,” observed Willi Schaefer, and you can definitely taste the corresponding layers."
