Made with organically grown clones of Michel and Lampia, the E Pira-Chiara Boschis 2017 Barolo Mosconi softly presents bright berry aromas, raspberry, wild cherry, crushed limestone and delicate floral tones of lilacs and violets. Like other wines from this hot vintage, this expression from the Mosconi cru in Monforte d'Alba has that unique floral signature that is precious and unexpected. The wine shows great depth and balance with a pretty intensity that spreads over the palate. The tannins are dry with some dustiness, but the mouthfeel is spot-on in terms of length and polish. Drink 2024 - 2042.

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique. Drink 2025 - 2037

Very fresh, sweet raspberries with some floral undertones follow through to a full body with fine, creamy tannins that flow long and linear through the middle of the palate. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2024.

Chiara Boschis E Pira Barolo Mosconi is a powerful and deeply expressive Barolo from the southern reaches of Monforte d’Alba, where the Mosconi cru is renowned for producing some of the most structured and age worthy Nebbiolo in Piedmont. This amphitheatre like vineyard sits on compact limestone and sandstone soils with high iron content, giving wines their dark intensity, firm tannins and unmistakable savoury depth. Chiara Boschis is one of the most important figures in modern Barolo, the first woman to run a Barolo estate on her own and a key member of the Barolo Boys movement that helped redefine the region in the 1990s. At E Pira she combines deep respect for traditional vineyard sites with a precise, thoughtful approach in the cellar, always focused on purity of fruit, balance and longevity rather than excess.
The 2017 vintage was warm and early, and in Mosconi that translated into a wine of concentration and authority without losing its essential Barolo line. In the glass it shows a deep garnet core with bright edges, opening with aromas of rose petal, black cherry, sour plum, licorice, dried herbs and iron rich earth. The palate is firm and commanding, layering dark red fruit, tar, spice and mineral grip with powerful, fine grained tannins that frame the wine rather than overwhelm it. There is a seriousness here that marks Mosconi clearly, making it ideal with braised beef, wild game, truffles and aged Parmigiano. With time this wine will unfold beautifully over twenty years or more, gaining leather, truffle and dried flower complexity while retaining its core of strength and elegance.
