The 2018er Scharzhof was fermented down to off-dry levels of residual sugar (28 g/l). Slightly reductive at first, this wine delivers a beautiful nose of pear, yellow peach, spices, aniseed herbs and smoke. The wine proves deliciously fruity and creamy on the palate, and develops some zesty fruits in the fresh and light finish. The after-taste proves superbly spicy and smoky, and quite long. 2022-2033

90 points Mosel Fine Wines

Vinified in stainless steel, the 2018 Riesling Scharzhof is clear, ripe and quite intense on the nose that displays a delicate flinty bouquet. On the palate, this is an intensely fruity and quite rich Riesling that tastes nearly dry. Bottled in late February with 28 grams per liter of residual sugar and 10.5% alcohol, the 2018 is not as crystalline and fine as I remember older vintages. It's pretty charming already.  June 2019. Drink 2020-2030

From the historic Scharzhof estate, this Riesling reflects the purity, finesse and precision that have made Egon Müller one of the most revered names in German wine. The Mosel’s steep slate slopes and cool climate shape a style built on delicacy, mineral tension and natural balance. Scharzhof Qualitäts Riesling offers a beautifully transparent expression of the region, showing how lightness and intensity can coexist, with a focus on clarity, freshness and site driven character.

Pale straw in colour, the aromas are lifted and refined, revealing lime zest, green apple and white peach, layered with white flowers and a distinct wet slate note. The palate is light on its feet yet full of energy, with bright citrus flavours, finely etched acidity and a subtle mineral drive that carries long through the finish.

There is a quiet elegance and precision that make it both refreshing and serious, ideal with shellfish, sushi, lightly spiced Asian dishes, pork and fresh cheeses. Delicious now for its purity and vibrancy, it will also develop added complexity over five to ten years, gaining subtle honeyed and toasty notes while retaining its signature Mosel freshness.
