Gaspipe reduction at first, then restrained mineral, spice, floral notes while the palate is light and delicate, restrained, fresh and juicy, with a slightly lighter middle. It's very good, and needs more time in the bottle to further build its bouquet and richness. A wine of effortless charm. (75 g/l sweetness) drink: 2022-2035

From one of the Mosel’s most legendary vineyards, this Spätlese captures the magic of Bernkasteler Doctor, a steep, slate rich site famed for producing Riesling of intensity, perfume and extraordinary longevity. Dr. H. Thanisch has deep historical ties to this revered vineyard, crafting wines that balance natural sweetness with racy acidity and profound mineral expression. The Doctor’s dark blue slate soils and extreme gradient concentrate flavour while preserving freshness, giving a style that is both opulent and razor sharp.
Pale gold in colour, the aromas are layered and seductive, showing ripe peach, apricot and orange blossom, followed by honey, lime zest and a striking wet slate character. The palate is beautifully poised, with luscious stone fruit sweetness balanced by electric acidity and a powerful mineral core that drives long through the finish. There is remarkable energy and tension, making it both delicious now and incredibly age worthy. Superb with spicy Asian cuisine, roast pork, blue cheese, foie gras or fruit based desserts. Built to cellar for decades, it will continue to gain complexity, petrol, toast and honeyed depth while retaining its signature Mosel freshness.
