Les Choisilles is named after a type of black flint of the same name, abundant in the old vine parcels that gift this wine. The main vineyards involved are Les Epinais, La Taille aux Loups and Clos Renard, where the bedrock is tuffeau (local limestone), and the vines range in age between 30 to 90 years. This is a wonderfully racy, mineral dry Chenin of intensity and drive. The notes below sum it up very well.
The 2018 Montlouis Choisilles is a blend from the Les Epinais, La Taille aux Loups and Clos au Renard lieu-dits. Dry and bracing in the glass, with tremendous energy, the Choisilles is beautifully delineated, with sweet floral notes and bright acids that round things out so well. Citrus confit, white flowers, chamomile and crushed rocks lead into the sculpted finish.

It has a very pure, ripe and fragrant nose, with lightly desiccated citrus fruits and a peach-leaf lift. For the vintage it presents an impressive aromatic freshness, although the palate shows a more typical style for 2018, with a rich and polished weight, carrying plenty of creamed tangerine and lemon fruits, along with a rather delicate backbone of acidity. It finishes with a pithy flourish, with some nice bitter elements here.”
