This has been such an exciting addition to the Luciano Sandrone portfolio. The 2018 Barolo Vite Talin is a bigger-styled Barolo with dark fruit, ample oak shadings and generous concentration. Overall, it is a wine of considerable fruit weight, and that richness is reflected in the grippy nature of the young tannins and the very plump and primary nature of the fruit. There is a note of dried Mediterranean herb, or something like a dried chili husk. You need time to tame that bossy tannin. Production is limited to 2,500 bottles.
96 points The Wine Advocate
From a single, extraordinary Nebbiolo vine discovered in the historic Le Coste vineyard came one of Barolo's most remarkable modern stories. Known locally as Talin, after the nickname of Luciano Sandrone's father, this rare biotype produced exceptionally small berries with remarkable concentration and character. After years of research, propagation and patient observation, Sandrone released Vite Talin in tiny quantities, creating a wine that has quickly become one of the most sought after and collectible Barolos in Italy.
Luciano Sandrone's reputation was built on an uncompromising pursuit of quality and a deep respect for the vineyards of the Langhe. Today, Barbara Sandrone and Luca Marrone continue that philosophy, producing wines that honour both tradition and innovation. The outstanding 2018 vintage combines classical Barolo perfume with exceptional finesse, allowing the distinctive personality of the Talin selection to shine through with remarkable purity and elegance.
Deep garnet with youthful ruby reflections, the bouquet is intensely complex, revealing aromas of rose petal, red cherry and blood orange layered with wild raspberry, violet and sweet spice. As the wine opens, notes of truffle, liquorice, tobacco leaf and crushed rock unfold, creating extraordinary depth and intrigue. The palate is powerful yet beautifully composed, with concentrated red fruits framed by finely sculpted tannins and vibrant acidity. Despite its impressive structure, the wine remains graceful and refined, finishing with extraordinary length and lingering notes of floral perfume, spice and mineral complexity.
This is a Barolo destined for memorable occasions, pairing magnificently with white truffle risotto, braised beef cheeks, venison loin, porcini mushroom pappardelle or perfectly aged Parmigiano Reggiano. While already captivating with extended decanting, its pedigree and balance promise a long and rewarding life in the cellar.
