From the top of the vineyard, just below Rousseau’s Chambertin. Beautifully rich purple with a heady but high-class nose, nothing over lush here but certainly intense. Just a little pepper and spice emerges from the whole bunch. The whole bunch component comes across as if a little bit volatile but the wine is clean. mix of red and black fruit to finish.

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a surprisingly reserved bouquet for this vineyard, featuring tightly coiled, slightly earthy dark fruit laced with subtle brine-like aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, gentle and slight in frame, perhaps needing to develop more matière and length on the finis, which tapers in a little.
