It’s hard to imagine a better example of a mature Aussie Riesling, and one that still has plenty of cellaring time if you wish. It’s sourced from up in the cool Eden Valley and over many years has been considered one of Australia’s greatest Rieslings. The colour has moved ever so slightly and the distinctive mature notes of toast and honey with a slightly buttery character emerge. But these are still in the earliest stages and will continue to deepen with even greater complexity. Do yourself a favour and check this baby out. Drink 2025–2037.

98 points Ray Jordan for Wine Pilot, April 2025

The sweep of gold medals on the label are a pretty good indication of the quality within. Pale straw with a green flash and inviting aromas of Bickford's lime cordial, Key lime pie, Christmas lily and clover blossom, almond paste, pressed meadow flowers, ozone, crushed stone and appealing light toasty tones. Savoury, precise and long with a shimmering minerality, finely poised limey flavours and a finish that sails on for a good time. You can file this under 'stone cold classic'. Drink 2026–2041.

96+ points Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion (Special Value), April 2026

Mid-straw and bright in the glass. Tightly bound aromas of lemon, lime, grapefruit pith, white flowers, wet slate and a lick of lemon curd. Crunchy, textured, tight and focused. There's real poise and drive here, along with a decent amount of grip and very smart length. Very pure riesling. Drink 2025–2040.

96 points Aaron Brasher for The Real Review, May 2025

This pure riesling displays aromas of hydrocarbons, lime peel and green apples. On the palate it’s lemony, with penetrating acidity and a pleasant saline note. Pure and concentrated with exceptional length.

95 points Jacobo García Andrade for James Suckling, November 2024

The 2018 Riesling Wigan has built power with time in bottle with rich lanolin, candied lime and subtle toasty tones starting to build. This is dry and heavy-bodied with charming, layered flavors opening out to a fleshy, creamy finish. The 2018 is at its peak now and for the next five years. Drink 2025–2030.

92 points Angus Hughson for Vinous, August 2025

Andrew Wigan was the Chief Winemaker for Peter Lehmann Wines from 1980 to 2014. Peter Lehmann’s reputation for Barossa Shiraz was complemented by Andrew’s passion for white wines, and his contribution to the Lehmann story was recognised in 2003 with the re-naming of the revered Reserve Riesling as Wigan Riesling. It has been named Best Riesling in the World six times by the International Wine and Spirit Competition, and has accumulated more than eighty trophies since its inaugural vintage. Few Australian white wines can claim a more decorated history.

The fruit comes from Ben Zander's Wroxton vineyard in Eden Valley at 500 metres above sea level on shallow schist and shale soils. 2018 was a warmer vintage, and fruit was picked earlier than usual to preserve the natural acidity that defines the style. The wine is fermented cold in stainless steel and cellared at the winery for five years before release, arriving ready for enjoyment, but with significant further potential.

The 2018 sits in a rewarding mid-life moment, with the primary citrus still vivid but beginning to yield to honey, toast and lanolin complexity. Lime cordial, lemon rind and green apple on the nose with developing brioche and a flinty mineral edge. The palate is dry, precise and long with thrilling acidity and a finish that lingers well after the glass is empty.

Enjoy the wine with simple seafood dishes that emphasise quality ingredients and allow for the wine to shine bright.
