The memory is hazy in Moppa in the northwest of the Barossa Valley. The vineyard was planted sometime in the 1940s or 1950s and managed organically for the past 40 years. It's all red plum and cherry fruit with a splash of raspberry coulis, along with hints of spice, ginger cake, earth and stone. It's concentrated but 40% whole bunches in the ferment opens the wine up beautifully, highlighting the crunchy, pure fruit, fine sandy tannin and savoury palate shape. Wonderful drinking.

In the extreme north west corner of the Barossa Valley is a small, old vineyard planting of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. Planted sometime in the 1940’s or 50’s, its owned and cared for by an older Bachelor who has grown up on the block – it’s been managed organically for around 40 years.
