From the rolling hills of Valpolicella in Veneto comes an Amarone that balances power with finesse. The Fattori family have been farming vineyards in the region for generations, with a strong focus on hillside sites that benefit from ventilation and sun exposure ideal for the traditional appassimento method. Col de Bastia refers to a carefully selected vineyard area where Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella are grown on limestone rich soils. After harvest, the grapes are dried slowly to concentrate flavour and structure before fermentation, a historic technique that defines Amarone della Valpolicella and gives it its depth and longevity.
Deep garnet in colour with ruby highlights, the aromatics are rich and layered. Dried cherry, black plum and fig unfold alongside notes of cocoa, sweet spice and a hint of balsamic. There is a subtle earthy undertone and a whisper of tobacco that add complexity and warmth.
On the palate it is full bodied and opulent yet surprisingly balanced. Concentrated dark fruit sits at the core, supported by firm, velvety tannins and a thread of fresh acidity that keeps the wine poised. Notes of dark chocolate, dried herbs and gentle oak build through the mid palate, leading to a long, warming finish marked by spice and dried cherry.
Pair with braised beef cheeks, venison stew, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or rich mushroom risotto. While impressive now with careful decanting, this Amarone will cellar confidently for fifteen to twenty years, developing further layers of leather, dried fruit and savoury complexity.
