In Victoria’s King Valley, where Italian varieties have found a natural second home, the Pizzini family has been leading the charge since the 1980s. Founded by Alfredo and Katrina Pizzini and now carried forward by the next generation, the estate has always championed regional expression with a strong Italian soul. Nonna Gisella is a tribute to family matriarch Gisella Pizzini, and the wine reflects that sense of warmth, generosity and tradition.

The King Valley’s alpine foothills bring warm days and cool nights, ideal for Sangiovese to ripen slowly while holding onto its signature acidity. The result is a style that balances bright red fruit with savoury detail, sitting comfortably between Italian classicism and Australian approachability.

Bright ruby in the glass, the aromatics are immediately inviting. Red cherry and cranberry lead, followed by dried herbs, tomato leaf and a gentle dusting of spice. There is a lifted, slightly rustic edge that feels true to the variety.

The palate is medium bodied and lively, with vibrant red fruits carried by fine, chalky tannins and a line of acidity that gives the wine real energy.
