1683 Wines was founded with a clear-eyed understanding of global heating and its inevitable impact on the wine industry. Burgundy, our greatest influence and historically ideal for making top quality wines, may sadly become inhospitable to traditional varieties within a generation.
The climate in Wilyabrup and Margaret River, while in some ways more advanced and difficult than Burgundy’s, is capable of producing wines of equal poise and elegance – with the added benefit of cooling sea breezes that regulate the hotter weather. There’s more certainty and potential in the future here, giving us more chance to build a legacy with 1683. The wines are on some of Burgundy’s top wine lists already, so we feel like we’re off to a good start.
