A Mano Negroamaro from Puglia is a vibrant, deeply coloured red that captures the soul of southern Italy — warm, generous, and full of rustic charm. Sourced from old vines planted in the sunbaked Salento peninsula, this wine celebrates the regional character of Negroamaro, a variety known for its dark fruit, earthy spice and robust structure. A Mano, founded by Californian winemaker Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, brings a modern touch to this ancient grape, balancing richness with freshness.
Grapes are hand harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in stainless steel to retain primary fruit and natural vibrancy. A short time in neutral oak rounds out the palate without masking the variety’s wild, herbal edge. The result is a wine that is both approachable and layered, offering plenty of flavour without heaviness.
On the nose it shows ripe black cherry, plum, dried oregano, tobacco leaf and a subtle earthy note. The palate is medium to full bodied, with juicy black fruit, dark chocolate, cracked pepper and a touch of licorice. Tannins are ripe and firm, but balanced by bright acidity and a dry, savoury finish.
Food pairing: great with wood-fired pizza, grilled sausages, roast lamb, or eggplant parmigiana. Also excellent with aged pecorino, orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe, or slow-cooked ragu.
Cellar potential: best enjoyed young to mid-term, though it can age over 5 to 7 years, gaining more savoury depth and mellow texture.
