Elegant and precise, the Cantina del Pino 2020 Barbaresco brings lots of freshness and a charming view of young Nebbiolo fruit. This vintage tends to be more accessible overall, but you are nonetheless awarded with the subtle nuances and complexity that characterize this variety. There is tart cassis, violet and earthy licorice root. This is a 12,000-bottle release.

From the historic village of Barbaresco in Piedmont comes a Nebbiolo that reflects deep family roots and cru level precision. Cantina del Pino farms vineyards in some of the region’s most respected sites, including Ovello and Albesani, planted on calcareous marl soils that deliver perfume, structure and longevity. Under Franca Vacca’s guidance, the philosophy remains classic and terroir focused, with careful extraction and restrained oak to preserve purity and vineyard character.
In the glass the colour is luminous garnet with brick edged highlights, unmistakably Nebbiolo. Aromas unfold slowly, revealing red cherry, dried rose and wild strawberry layered with violet, anise and subtle spice. There is an earthy, mineral undertone that speaks clearly of Barbaresco’s limestone rich soils.
On the palate it is medium to full bodied, structured and poised. Bright red fruit forms the core, supported by firm, finely etched tannins and vibrant acidity that promise longevity. Notes of tobacco leaf, dried herbs and discreet oak build through the mid palate, leading to a long, savoury finish marked by cherry skin and stony precision. It is Barbaresco in a traditional, age worthy frame, elegant yet authoritative.
Pair with braised veal, truffle risotto, slow roasted duck or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. While expressive now with a careful decant, it will cellar confidently for fifteen to twenty years, developing complex notes of leather, dried rose and earthy savoury depth.
