Showing elegant richness and a velvety consistency, the Massolino 2020 Barolo ages in large oak botti for 30 months. The wine represents a blend of fruit from Serralunga d'Alba (Collaretto, Briccolina, Broglio and Le Turne) and one site in Castiglione Falletto. Elegance is underlined in this wine that shows wild berry, dried blueberry and a sweet touch of lilac over a medium-dark finish. The wine's texture manages to be direct and linear but generous at the same time. This is a large release of 90,000 bottles and a good value for money.

Massolino Barolo from Piedmont is a benchmark expression of traditional Nebbiolo—elegant, structured, and true to its Serralunga d’Alba origins. Crafted by one of the Langhe’s most respected family estates, this Barolo captures the balance of power and finesse that defines the best wines of the region. With its deep roots in classic winemaking and a focus on terroir, Massolino’s Barolo is a wine that consistently delivers authenticity, depth, and long-term ageability.

The Massolino family has been producing wine in Serralunga since 1896, with each generation refining the estate’s philosophy while preserving its soul. Their Barolo is sourced from estate vineyards in Serralunga, a commune known for producing some of Barolo’s most structured and age-worthy wines thanks to its compact clay-limestone soils and elevated slopes. These sites give the wine its signature tension, minerality, and refined tannins.

Fermentation takes place in large open vats with extended maceration, followed by ageing in traditional large Slavonian oak casks for around 30 months. This slow, gentle approach enhances the wine’s natural structure without overwhelming its delicate aromatics.

In the glass, Massolino Barolo opens with lifted aromas of dried rose, sour cherry, tar, anise, and earthy spice. The palate is finely textured, with red berry fruit, savoury herbs, vibrant acidity, and firm yet elegant tannins. It’s a wine of energy and restraint, built for the cellar but approachable with time and air.

Perfect with truffle risotto, braised meats, game, or aged cheeses, this Barolo is a classical, terroir-driven wine that speaks directly to the heart of Piedmont. Whether enjoyed young with a long decant or aged for 10 to 20 years, Massolino’s Barolo offers a pure and timeless experience.
