A beautiful Barolo here with a touch of dried spices to the grapefruit citrus, minerals, camphor and dried flowers. Melted, chalky tannins on the palate with medium to full body and a long, mineral-driven finish. Lots of clarity and finesse here. Drink or hold.

A truly inspiring Barolo! Opening with aromas of macerated Bing cherries kissed with clove and anise that then evolves into notes of wild herbs and earth. The elegant palate is open and giving with ample fruit at its center while retaining more of its soul for a few years in the cellar. Drink Now - 2040

Paolo Scavino has long been one of Barolo’s benchmark producers, combining generations of traditional vineyard knowledge with a more refined modern approach in the cellar. Founded in Castiglione Falletto in 1921, the family estate is now led by Enrico Scavino and his daughters, with an uncompromising focus on expressing the individuality of Piedmont’s great vineyard sites. Their classic Barolo DOCG blends fruit from several prestigious crus, creating a wine that captures the power, perfume and complexity of the region in a beautifully balanced style.
The 2020 vintage is wonderfully expressive and finely structured. Aromas of dark cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange rise from the glass alongside dried rose petals, liquorice and earthy spice. There is impressive depth through the palate, though the wine never feels heavy, with bright acidity and polished tannins carrying layers of red fruit, tea leaf, truffle and crushed herbs through a long savoury finish. Subtle oak influence adds warmth and texture while allowing Nebbiolo’s distinctive perfume and minerality to remain front and centre.
This is Barolo made for slow meals and good company. Braised beef cheeks, truffle risotto or handmade tajarin pasta with butter and sage would all be sensational pairings. It would also shine beside slow roasted lamb, porcini mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses enjoyed late into the evening. Given time in the glass, more floral, earthy and savoury detail slowly emerges, reminding you why Paolo Scavino remains one of Piedmont’s most admired names.
