Deep and mysterious, this Barolo initially presents a dark, brooding character that gradually reveals its true potential. Layers of ripe red cherries, juicy plums, and blackberries emerge on the palate, accompanied by hints of licorice, tobacco, and earthy truffle. Robust, well-structured tannins provide a firm backbone, promising a long and rewarding journey ahead. Patience will be richly rewarded. Drinks 2028 - 2050.

Harmonious, well-structure and layered. The nose shows aromas of wild strawberries, sour cherries, dried herbs, crushed stones and flowers. It’s medium- to full-bodied with finely grained tannins, yet it is still firm at this stage supported by fresh acidity. Precise with a dense but juicy texture and harmonious structure. Long finish. Try after 2028.

The Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero from Piedmont is a stunning single-vineyard Barolo that epitomizes the elegance, complexity, and finesse for which the region is celebrated. Crafted from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the historic Monvigliero cru in Verduno, this wine reflects both the exceptional terroir and the meticulous craftsmanship of the Scavino family, winemakers since 1921.

On the nose, the wine is incredibly aromatic, with layers of red cherries, wild strawberries, and cranberries mingling with floral notes of rose petals and violets. Subtle hints of licorice, white pepper, and truffle add complexity, while a touch of tobacco and cedar lend a refined, earthy character.

The palate is medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity providing structure and balance. Flavors of juicy red fruits are interwoven with savory undertones of herbs, leather, and a whisper of anise. The wine’s hallmark is its ethereal texture and long, graceful finish, showcasing Monvigliero’s signature elegance and precision.

The Monvigliero vineyard, located in the northernmost part of the Barolo appellation, is known for its calcareous and sandy soils, which lend a distinctive aromatic profile and delicate tannins to the wine. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of French oak barrels and large casks, the wine captures the purity of Nebbiolo while allowing the terroir to shine.

This Barolo pairs beautifully with dishes such as truffle risotto, braised beef, or game meats. It also complements aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Taleggio. While approachable after a few years of bottle aging, the Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero has the structure and complexity to evolve gracefully over 15–20 years, rewarding patience with greater depth and nuance.
