At first, this is pretty and fragrant with an easy appeal. It’s the florals, the cassis and mulberries, whiff of eucalyptus and baking spices. Yet the medium-bodied palate teases with lithe, fine tannins, lively acidity and a smoothness throughout. There’s a subtlety yet complexity. Lovely now and will take the next two decades easily.

Margaret River blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (94%) and merlot.

It bursts from the blocks with sweet raspberry jam aromas, edging as it breathes towards cloves and gravel. The palate reflects the nose, adding bay leaves, blackcurrant and tobacco. Fine, brick-dust tannin leads the wine out. This looks very good but it also looks a touch advanced; I’d drink this on the earlier side.

Voyager Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River is a powerful yet finely structured red that speaks to the region’s reputation for world-class Cabernet. The estate, founded in 1978, has long been known for its meticulous vineyard management and dedication to organic farming, ensuring that each vintage expresses the purity of its terroir. Winemaker Tim Shand, who joined Voyager Estate in 2022, continues the winery’s tradition of crafting elegant, age-worthy Cabernets that balance concentration with finesse.

Deep ruby with a garnet edge, this Cabernet opens with classic aromas of blackcurrant, mulberry, and dark cherry, layered with graphite, cedar, and bay leaf. Subtle oak influence adds hints of cocoa and warm spice without overpowering the fruit. The palate is bold yet refined, with silky tannins framing the dark berry flavors, while bright acidity provides freshness and balance. Earthy undertones and fine-grained tannins lead to a long, structured finish with lingering notes of tobacco, black olive, and crushed rock.

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, slow-braised beef, or aged cheddar. Its structure and depth also make it an excellent match for mushroom-based dishes or chargrilled vegetables. While drinking well now, this Cabernet has the potential to evolve over the next 10–15 years, developing further complexity and depth.
