The Conterno Fantino 2021 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Sorì Ginestra shows a balanced display of dark fruit, crushed rose, rust and black licorice. This wine offers a special layer of complexity, when compared to the others in this portfolio, that is underlined by rich texture. It shows generous volume and depth, all backed by firm but chalky tannins. Fruit maturity is taken to impressive heights while maintaining the wine's inner energy.

An intoxicating wine with aromas of mint, dried flowers, red cherries and graphite. Full-bodied, it shows firm and extracted tannins of good ripeness, with crisp acidity and a muscular yet balanced finish. A powerful wine that will age well. Try from 2027.

From the renowned Ginestra cru in Monforte d’Alba comes a Barolo that captures the depth and authority of one of Piedmont’s most respected vineyard sites. Conterno Fantino was founded in 1982 by Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino, combining family vineyard heritage with a meticulous approach to modern Barolo production. Their vineyards in the Ginestra zone sit on steep slopes rich in limestone and clay, with excellent sun exposure that allows Nebbiolo to ripen slowly while maintaining structure and aromatic complexity. The Vigna Sorì Ginestra bottling comes from a prime south facing parcel within the cru, producing wines known for both concentration and remarkable longevity.
In the glass the colour is classic garnet with ruby reflections. The bouquet is complex and beautifully layered, revealing rose petal, dried cherry and raspberry alongside hints of liquorice, tar and truffle. Subtle notes of tobacco, spice and forest floor develop with air, adding depth and intrigue.
On the palate it is full bodied, powerful and finely structured. Red berry fruit forms the core, framed by firm, polished tannins and vibrant acidity that give both lift and ageing potential. Layers of dried cherry, earthy spice and mineral nuance unfold through the mid palate, supported by carefully integrated oak. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, marked by elegance and impressive structure.
Pair with braised beef, venison, truffle risotto or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. While captivating with extended decanting in its youth, Vigna Sorì Ginestra Barolo will cellar confidently for twenty five years or more, evolving into layers of leather, dried flowers and complex earthy notes.
