The Conterno Fantino 2021 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped has pronounced notes of liquorice and toasted aniseed that complement a core of dark fruit. Compared to the other wines in this portfolio, Mosconi Vigna Ped has the richest texture, paired with silky tannins and soft, juicy fruit. Why not try it with a food pairing such as roast beef slices that are deep pink in the centre.

A classic, powerful Barolo. Very minty and balsamic on the nose, dark and intense, with complex and layered notes of preserved flowers, black cherries and plums. On the palate, it shows concentration, a full body, powerful acidity, firm, dusty yet ripe tannins and a flexible finish despite its extraction.

The Mosconi cru in Monforte d’Alba is known for producing some of the most structured and age worthy Barolo in Piedmont, and the Vigna Ped parcel captures that reputation beautifully. Conterno Fantino, founded in 1982 by Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino, has become one of the leading modern estates of the region, combining traditional Nebbiolo character with careful vineyard management and precise winemaking. The Mosconi vineyard sits on steep slopes rich in limestone and clay, with excellent exposure that allows Nebbiolo to ripen slowly while maintaining the structure and aromatic complexity that define great Barolo.
In the glass the wine shows a classic garnet hue with bright ruby reflections. Aromas are deeply layered and expressive, opening with rose petal, red cherry and dried raspberry before revealing hints of liquorice, tar and crushed herbs. Subtle notes of tobacco, spice and forest floor add further complexity as the wine evolves in the glass.
On the palate it is powerful yet beautifully composed. Red berry fruit sits at the centre, supported by firm, finely structured tannins and vibrant acidity that provide both lift and longevity. Flavours of dried cherry, truffle, earth and gentle oak unfold through the mid palate, leading to a long, savoury finish marked by minerality and persistence. It is a commanding yet refined expression of Monforte d’Alba Barolo.
Serve with braised beef, slow cooked lamb shoulder, truffle pasta or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. While captivating now with extended decanting, Vigna Ped from the Mosconi cru will cellar confidently for twenty five years or more, gradually developing layers of leather, dried flowers and earthy spice.
